Time to Change your Clocks and the Batteries in all Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Elizabethtown–Kitley, March 8/19

Daylight savings time begins on Sunday March 10th and our fire department is recommending residents install new batteries in their smoke & carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks this weekend.  

In order for smoke & carbon monoxide alarms to do their job, they need to have charged batteries. Once a year or when required old batteries should be replaced with new batteries in all detection alarms.  When you change your clocks this weekend, the fire department wants everyone to take the time to install new batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

In order to survive a fire, you need to be provided with an early warning and know what to do when the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms sound. It’s the law to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas. For added protection, it is recommended to also install smoke & carbon monoxide alarms inside all bedrooms.  

Tampering with, or removing the batteries from your smoke alarms is against the law. Failure to comply with the Fire Code smoke alarm requirements can result in a ticket for $295.00 or a fine of up to $50,000.
