Equipment Operator
Permanent, Full-Time
$28.14 - $32.18 Hourly (2025 Rates)

The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley Public Works Department is seeking one (1) permanent full-time Equipment Operator to work out of the New Dublin facility and/or the Toledo facility.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Public Works, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the following:

  • Operates vehicles and equipment for the purpose of maintaining roads during the winter and summer maintenance periods
  • Performs winter maintenance, snow clearing and removal as well as material spreading activities.
  • Operates equipment such as: 
    • Rubber tired backhoe (loader only)
    • Wheel Loader
    • Excavator
    • Plow/Dump truck (5 Tonne Plow-wing combination unit)
    • Pick-up truck (with snowplow/salter)
    • Chain saws
    • Other equipment as required
  • Performs minor maintenance on all Public Works trucks and equipment as well as other maintenance as assigned.
  • Performs general maintenance work and general labor.
  • Is involved in heavy manual labour when required.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • OSSD or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, Working at Heights, O.Reg. 555/06 Hours of Service, O.Reg. 239/02 Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways and O.Reg. 199/07 Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of winter maintenance experience (5 Tonne Plow-wing combination unit operation), preferably with a municipality.
  • Working knowledge of the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment generally used in public works maintenance activities.
  • Valid class “A” or “D” driver’s licence with airbrake “Z” endorsement.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Chainsaw certification will be considered an asset.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to work irregular and/or extended hours including all weekends and Statutory Holiday.
  • Operators must be able to work up to the maximum hours prescribed in O.Reg. 555/06.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, kneel, bend, walk, lift, and carry objects of varying weights up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to perform all physical demands of the job under adverse conditions.
  • Work is primarily outdoors with frequent exposure to potential hazards and inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as alone.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Valid drivers license with a satisfactory drivers abstract.

Preference will be given to candidates with 3 or more years’ experience operating heavy civil machinery and experience in a municipal or similar work environment. A copy of the Job Description is available on the Townships website and upon request through the Township office.

The compensation for the position is $28.14 to $32.18 per hour (40 hours per week) based on the experience of the successful candidate.

The Township offers a comprehensive benefit package and participates in the OMERS pension program.

Public Works Supervisor
$92,169 - $103,759 (2025 Rates)

This important leadership position involves coordinating and supervising the maintenance and enhancement of the Township’s infrastructure, focusing on municipal road upkeep and landfill operations. Working with the Public Works Manager, the successful candidate will oversee our public works crews to maintain the highest standards of operational excellence and regulatory compliance.


Salary:
Pay Grade 8 – $92,169 to $103,759 (40-hour work week)
