The Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire Department is proud to offer the opportunity for dedicated individuals to join our team as volunteer firefighters. As a vital part of our community, volunteers play an essential role in providing fire protection, rescue services, and fire prevention efforts. The Fire Chief may recommend to the Council the appointment of any qualified person to become a probationary member of the department. To be considered for appointment as a probationary member, a person must meet the following requirements:

Submit an Application

  • Apply in writing or complete an application form.

Age Requirement

  • Be at least 19 years of age.

Pass Required Tests

  • Successfully pass interviews, aptitude, and physical tests as required.

Medical Examination

  • Pass a medical examination related to the physical requirements of a firefighter.

Valid Driver’s License

  • Hold a valid Ontario Driver’s License with a minimum “G” classification.

Application Forms

  • Complete and submit the following forms:
      • Volunteer Application Screening Consent for Disclosure of Personal Information Form

      • Volunteer Firefighter Application Form

Completed application forms are accepted year-round and must be returned to:

As a volunteer firefighter, you can expect:

Training and Education

  • Opportunities to advance and expand your knowledge in:
      • First aid

      • Hazardous materials (Haz-mat)

      • Fire suppression

      • Rescue operations

      • Enrollment in Ontario Fire College

Community and Personal Growth

  • Participate in firefighting, rescue operations, and fire prevention efforts.

Physical Challenges

  • Sore, achy muscles after training and active duty.

Professional Development

  • Opportunity to upgrade or continue your driver’s license (e.g., Class “D” or “Z” endorsement).
  • Hepatitis “B” vaccination provided.

Compensation

  • Receive a December honorarium as a token of appreciation for your service.

Personal Sacrifices

The Fire Department is committed to participating in various workshops and seminars focused on fire prevention and public fire safety education. The Fire Chief and/or Fire Prevention Personnel may attend meetings and conferences with organizations that promote fire safety, including:

  • Fire Prevention Committees

  • Fire Prevention Officers Association

  • Assist in protecting the environment.
