On September 8, 2020, the Five Mile Light Ad Hoc Committee welcomed its supporters to celebrate the completion of the new lighthouse structure. The event recognized major donors, offered boat tours, and the passing of the key to the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley.
Interest in rebuilding the historic Cole Shoal Lighthouse (more commonly known of the Five Mile Light) began over two years ago after the 162 year old structure was lost by fire caused by a lightning strike on July 23, 2018. The Committee dedicated to preserving local marine heritage raised funds to cover the cost of the rebuild, and continues to accept donations for the future maintenance of this local landmark.
