The Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley is proud to announce that Andy Guilboard has been selected as the new Fire Chief for the Elizabethtown-Kitley Fire Services (EKFD) and will begin the role on June 1st, 2022. The position became available with the announcement of the retirement of long standing Fire Chief Jim Donovan.
Mr. Guilboard brings a wealth of both emergency response and local knowledge to the position with over 30 years of experience in fire services, acting as a Fire Captain beginning in 1990 and more recently holding the role of Deputy Fire Chief for the municipality since 2016.
Throughout the years, Mr. Guilboard has been involved in furthering fire protection and prevention measures, collaborating with other area fire services, and acted as primary commander at emergency scenes. He has also advocated on behalf of volunteer first responders about heightened mental health awareness, the recognition of their past services to meet new provincial requirements, and arranging training sessions to ensure the members are prepared for any situation they may face.
Mayor Burrow states “On behalf of Council, I extend our congratulations to Deputy Chief Guilboard on his promotion to Fire Chief. As a member of the Hiring Committee which vetted several applications, I am pleased to say it is not only well deserved, but it was also duly earned. The Township has enjoyed decades of strong and effective leadership in its Fire Department. In the bittersweet moment of bidding a fond farewell to Chief Donovan, we are very fortunate to be facing such a smooth and seamless transition to a new era. We can rest easy knowing that EKFD will continue to be in great hands.”
